Belgium and Canada faced off in the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a slow start, and in the 11th minute when Canada drew a foul in the box off of a Belgium handball. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois brought the heat with an incredible save after Alphonso Davies’ attempt on a penalty kick opportunity. In the 44th minute, Michy Batshuayi found the net and knocked in the first goal of the match to give Belgium a 1-0 score over Canada at halftime. Cyle Larin came close to securing Canada’s first goal off a header in the 80th minute but was unable to find the net due to another Courtois block. The match closed out with a 1-0 Belgium win over Canada.
